        Good Morning All!!
1 Kings 3:14; “And if you will walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.”
Many years ago, before the automotive industry was all computerized and electronic circuits, they used to use devices like dwell lights and scanners and scopes.  The one that always fascinated me was one that had a light that moved in a cycle from +1 to -1.  If you are a math junkie it was a sine curve.  The trick was to get all the lines of the scope to line up or synchronize and make one curve.  If the curves were one then the car motor was tuned to its proper running performance.  If the curves were not aligned, the motor would run rough.  The greater the divergence from the one single curve line the poorer the car ran.  Once the mechanic tuned the different elements, the amount of gasoline flowing through the carburetor, the air flow into the cylinder, the heat of the spark and the opening of the valves; the vehicle was in a harmony cycle and would perform at its best.
Our life is much the same way.  When we live our life according to God’s will life goes better and we live in a more peaceful contented manner.  We live according to God’s will where God reveals to us the manner that he designed us to live.  When God created man, he wrote on man’s heart and spirit how he was to live.  God wrote upon him what were the best choices in life that gives to man and to the rest of creation.  He wrote upon our hearts the desire to live caring for the creation, caring for each other and praising God for the wonders of life.
Sin erased this understanding and desire.  Sin caused us to live a life that is totally out of harmony and sync.  We turned inward with our desires seeking to fulfill selfish wants and dreams.  Yet this inward focus leads to unhappiness and an empty existence.  We can see this by those who seek after money, fame, power or prestige.  These people are never satisfied; they are never content with what they have.  They always want more; more money, more experiences; more sensual excitement because what they have is never enough.  They chase after this getting no satisfaction only gaining exhaustion and emptiness.
But if we keep God’s commands, if we follow his will and live our life according to his design, we will live a more contented and peaceful life.  We will find that harmony that will reduce our exhaustion and enhance our happiness.  We may not have a longer life like God promised Solomon but we live that life with more enjoyment, more satisfaction and more contentment.  We will live in the peace that God gives us.
Father of all good, lead us to see that living according to your will gives us the peace and contentment that you desire for us.  Lead us away from selfishness and self-centeredness that sin draws us into.  Guide us to see that your love is our hope.  Guide us to follow your ways to the glory of your name.  In the precious name of Jesus we pray, amen.
God’s Peace,
Pastor Bret
