Good Morning All!!
Psalm 17:7; “Wondrously show your
steadfast love, O Savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your right hand.”
The other day we were decorating the church
with the Christmas decorations. It is a
fun and festive event. Someone usually
brings at least one cd with Christmas music on it. The bad part is that the CD player is in the
balcony so someone has to go upstairs and reload the cd. During a dead time, one of the wives of the
elders asked for Christmas music. So I
offered to do my Yogi Yorgesson impression and sing “I Yust Go Nuts at
Christmas.” I was shocked that she had
never heard such a classic as that.
In this novelty song, the
singer laments shopping, toys and his crazy relatives who come to visit. Toward the end he proclaims “Oh, I'm so
glad Merry Christmas comes yust once a year.” Do you ever feel like that? Are you glad Christmas comes just once a
year? Many people make this
statement. Given that these next three
weeks or so will get even more hectic, the feeling is understandable.
Yet in our real life, we seek Christmas
every day. We seek our refuge in our
Savior Jesus. Whether we are lonely,
afraid or lost in a sea of emotion, we seek our Savior; we seek Christmas. We seek the coming of the Savior into our
life to bring us hope. We seek our
Savior, the coming of Christmas for the comfort that we need during the
challenges of life. When we look out at
the world we see and look at all the violence, all of the suffering and all of
the sorrow; we need our Savior; we need Christmas to come every day of the
year.
It was this need that our loving God saw
and determined to fill. God saw the
despair in his people throughout history and the struggles and failures they
endured. The cry of his people was heard
by God and to meet this cry; God sent Jesus into this world to bring about the
kingdom of God and to end the exile of the people from God. Mankind no longer lost and without hope. Christmas has come and it continues to come
every single time we call upon the Lord’s Name he hears us and Jesus is
there. Jesus is always there bringing us
the hope that we desire and giving us the peace that we need.
In many ways, the chaotic pattern of this
time of the year is a fitting expression of what the world offers us. It offers us exhaustion, despair and
emptiness. Yet the quiet peace of a baby
born in a stable give us rest, hope and fills our hearts with the true joy that
only Christ can give us. Rejoice for
Christmas comes every single day of the year.
Gracious
Lord, you give us hope in every situation that we face. You give us comfort in our worries and settle
our soul in times of fear. Come Lord
Jesus, calm our hearts and fill our emptiness with your wondrous love. Speak to our spirit that we may know your peace. In your holy name we pray, amen.
God’s
Peace,
Pastor
Bret
