Good
Morning All!!
Genesis 1:3; “And God said, “Let there be light,”
and there was light.”
“Let there be light,” and there was light. It doesn’t get much simpler than that. Yet think about what this entails. Think about all the things in the universe
that produce light and how long they have produced light. Even as I sit here writing this; it is light
outside, sort of bright. It is supposed
to be cloudy tomorrow but even then, light will be produced. As we plant our garden, light plays a huge
role in the production of tomatoes and everything green. Think of all that energy. Think of how much light that is. We have more than enough light. Most of the light doesn’t even come to the
earth. The whole back half of the sun is
producing light right now and we will never experience.
Think of all the stars that exist and all produce light. Even things that are not stars produce
light. Anything that produces enough
friction will begin to glow; to produce light.
“And God said,” that was all it took and more light than you and I could
ever imagine, measure, use or contemplate came into existence. Nothing in our life could ever compare to
this power. Nothing in our human
existence could ever produce as those three words; “and God said.”
The incredible power of God’s spoken word. We often think of it when we see lightening
or hear rolling thunder. We often think
of it when we look at the majesty of mountains and the awe inspiring grandeur. Perhaps when we see a volcano erupt or the
seas swell and fall and we think “all this with a spoken word; and God said.” We see the power and we marvel that everything
that exists exists because of God’s spoken word.
Yet it is not just power, awe and majesty that we see in God’s word; we
see God’s infinite love and majestic grace.
We see this love in the words “It is finished.” We see it in the words “come unto me all you
who labor.” We see it in the words
spoken to the prisoners “come out!” We see it in the
healing invitation of Isaiah, “Come,
everyone who thirsts, come to
the waters; and he who has no money, come,
buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. We see it as God speaks and his words heal
us, restore us, recreate us and give to us live. We see his word, his breath, filling us with
his life giving Spirit. We see it when
that spoken word declares us holy.
God spoken word changes our life. God spoken word gives us hope and brings us
peace. Do you hear his word? Do you hear him speaking to you? He speaks to us every day thrown his holy
Word, the Scriptures, and he speaks to us through his sacraments of Baptism and
The Lord’s Supper. We hear his words to receive his mercy. In his words we have all that we need.
Gracious Father,
when you speak, things are forever changed.
You spoke the word and you changed me.
You changed me from a lost and condemned person into a redeemed and
loved child. Be with those who do not
hear you voice. Be with those who do not
hear your words of grace and miss the joy of your saving words. Open the ears of the lost that they may know
your peace. In the precious name of
Jesus our risen /savior we pray, amen.
God’s
Peace,
Pastor
Bret
