Good Morning
All!!
Romans 8:32; “He who did
not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him
graciously give us all things?”
One of my daughters-in-law is in the National Guard so that
means that for one weekend a month my son is both mom and dad to his son Blake
and daughter Sydney. Grandma and grandpa
help but there comes a time when it is the three of them. This past weekend was that weekend. My son told Blake that he needed to sit and
watch TV for a little bit while he put Sydney to bed. Blake told his dad that he had a surprise for
him. Now when an almost three year old
tells you he has a surprise for you, you are a little apprehensive but the plan
went forward.
When my son came back into the room, Blake had two buckets filled with
toys. He told his dad that this bucket
was a present for him and he would take the other one. The thing that was most touching was that the
bucket he gave his dad had his favorite toys in it and the bucket he kept for
himself had the “odds and ends” toys. He
gave his best to his dad just as God gave his best to us.
That is what Paul is telling us in our verse. Here we see that God gave up his one and only
son to die for us. He gave us the best
he had. He gave us his favorite
part. He gave it because he loves
us. We received his best because of his incredible
love for us. This wondrous gift is of
such great proportion that we cannot fully comprehend it. Yet Paul takes it even beyond this step to
something even greater!
God not only gives us his Son; he goes beyond this step and gives us all
things. He gives us life and hope, peace
and power. He gives us the new day, full
of new opportunities. He gives us the
freshness of life filled with his love and grace. The beauty is that God gives. He doesn’t require us to pay him. There is no type of payment, no sacrifice, no
ritual to perform; we only need to trust and believe that this wondrous gift of
love given to us is real and sufficient for what we owe. We cling to the mercy that God gives us. We hold onto the very God that is holding
onto us.
The mercy that God shows us, the
best of his best, lifts us up and sustains us through all the battles and all
the struggles. God lifts us up out of
the mire of sin and out of the pit of despair that sin puts us in. God gives us hope for a greater
tomorrow. God gives us the promise of
never abandoning us today. We can face
whatever comes at us knowing that God’s best will always win and give to us his
certain victory. Nothing overcomes God
and He is on your side in all things.
Father, you give me everything. You give me the blessings of this life and
the certainty of tomorrow. In you I have
all my needs met and in you do all my wants exist. To you alone goes all praise; to you alone
goes all the glory. Holy s your
name! In the precious name of Jesus we
pray, amen.
God’s Peace,
Pastor Bret
