Good Morning All!!
Matthew
5:16; “ In the same way, let your light shine
before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your
Father who is in heaven.”
We all know the old saying, “seeing is believing.” Many of us live by this in some fashion or
another. If it is too good to be true,
well we just have to see it. We are like
the man who read the newspaper ad that listed a “2012 Porsche 911” for sale for
$70.00. He was sure it was a misprint
and that tomorrow it would cost $70,000.
The next day, it was still $70.00.
Now he was intrigued. The next
day, it was still $70.00. He asked his
friends and all agreed something was wrong with the car. It must be a burned up shell. On the fourth day he saw the ad again, now it
said “2012 Porsche 911” marked down to $60.00 or best offer. That was enough so he went to the address to
see this “Porsche”; it had to be a wreck.
As he pulled up, he saw a Porsche 911 in pristine condition. He knocked on the door and a lady answered
and told him that yes this was the Porsche that was for sale; she would like
$60.00 but needed to make a quick sale as she needed the money. The man took out $60.00 from his wallet and
gave it to her and she gave him the title.
Ashe turned to walk away, his conscience was too much. He returned and knocked on the door and told
the lady that the car was worth 1000 times what he paid. She said, “I know but my husband ran off with
his secretary and told me to sell the Porsche and send him the money.” Seeing is believing.
Seeing is believing. It shows
what it is. The man did not believe
until he saw the car. People will not
believe your profession of faith until they see it in action and your actions
reveal your beliefs. Your faith directs
your belief and your belief directs your actions. You can profess one thing but if your actions
and statements say something else; your actions speak louder. Your actions and behavior reveal what you
truly believe. You can say you care
about your brother but if you do not feed him; your actions speak louder than
your words.
This is why Jesus spoke of showing love to others; this is the light
that people see. People see how we
act. People see how we behave. Your light shines and it either shines
brightly giving God the glory or it fails to shine and your own selfish heart is
on display as a very dark place. Our
actions either show God’s love or they show our greed. The true “us” shows through and we cannot
hide it.
God’s calls us to live for him.
He brings us into his family and sends his Spirit to dwell in us and
empowers us to be his agents of healing and support. He gives to us the keys to the kingdom so
that we may give hope. It is our calling,
are we up to it?
Father,
move me to be your light. Do not let me
watch from the sidelines. Put me in the
game of life to win souls for you. Break
my heart when my brother or sister is in pain.
Heal me that I may be a blessing to those whom I meet today. Enliven my spirit to shine brightly for
you. In the precious name of Jesus we
pray, amen.
God’s Peace,
Pastor Bret
