Good Morning All!!
Galatians 3:28; “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
They were kings.  They were kings of nations and kingdoms in Europe.  They were known as King Egbert the Bald (King of England) or King Ethelred the Unready (England) or Clothar the Old (France) or Charles the Fat (Holy Roman Empire) or Clovis the Lazy (France).  Not exactly terms of endearment but the names identified each man from someone else.  There were a lot of people named Charles; the fat one is the king.  Not exactly the most complimentary but it worked.
We may not do it out loud but we do something similar when we identify people.  Susan is the tall brunette; Gary is short and has glasses.  There are three guys named William, one is bald, one is married and one has a beard.  We do this to identify; unfortunately sometimes we do this in order to hurt or control.  Sometimes we do it in order to push someone down thinking we are elevating ourself.  When we do this we sin, we damage the Body of Christ and damage our relationship with God.
We often see, note and point out differences but we should really focus on how we are the same.  Everyone has two eyes, two arms, two legs, a nose and two ears.  Of course, there are many people who have lost limbs in various accidents, injuries or birth defects.  So even there, we are different from each other.  There is yet one way we are all similar; we are all creatures of God for whom Christ willingly gave his life to save.  Everyone is a person that Jesus died in order to rescue them from the devil.
As we look at each other, we all need to be rescued.  We are all sinful beings whose only hope is found in Jesus as our Lord and Savior.  Everyone you see, the Native American, the Black man, the Hispanic, the illegal alien, the housewife, the laborer, the shop owner, the drug addict, the thief, the little old lady down the street, even the guy you see in the mirror needs to be rescued by Jesus.  We are all in the same boat.  We are all the lost children who are in need of God’s mercy; we are in need of Jesus’ rescuing.
So the next time you look at that person standing in the checkout line, look close and you will see someone who is exactly like you.  You will see someone who shares the same need that you have.  You will see someone who needs a savior; just like you.  You see someone who Jesus died for; just like you. In essence, you see yourself.
Father, lead me to see myself in my brother.  Lead me to show the compassion that I so desperately desire.  Move me to reach out to the broken and the hurting with the same love that you reach out to me.  Lead me to see my brother in all that I meet.  In the precious name of Jesus I pray, amen.
God’s Peace,
Pastor Bret
