Good Morning All!!
Titus 1:2; “in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began
We are well into the political campaign season.  The comments and statements are flying left and right and coming out hot and heavy.  Wouldn’t it be nice, if every time they told a lie, their nose would grow and flash red, kind of a cross between Pinocchio and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer?  It might be a very colorful debate/campaign/ election process.  Most of us would probably be tempted to vote for the shortest nose.
I know that this is somewhat humorous but it is actually a lot sad.  Isn’t it sad that we fully expect to be lied to by the very people who want to be the leaders of our country?  We are definitely like sheep being led to slaughter.  We knowingly follow people who lie.  We knowingly follow people who take a given set of facts and then either ignore them, twist them, change them or conveniently alter them for their own gain.  Do we follow those who twist the facts into a mold that we want to hear or do we simply listen to the most soothing lie?  Do we look for the greatest bravado and the person who has the greatest gravitas or do we like the calming voice that says the right think, cracks with emotion at the right time and claims to be right there with us?
This is truly what this world offers us.  It offers us lies; contemptible lies, convenient lies, convoluted lies, crushing lies or even charismatic lies but lies all the same.  Lies always have one thing in common; they all fall short and fail us when we most need them.  When you rely on lies, you will fall and fall hard.  The pain of a lie is always felt by the person who trusted it and rarely the one who told it.  When you trust a lie, you will suffer.  When you trust a lie, ultimately, you will die.
This is why our truth, our hope is dependent completely upon God.  Our hope rests upon the promises of God who never lies.  I think we humans really struggle with the truth of that statement.  We find it difficult that there actually is someone who never lies.  We have conditioned ourselves to the understanding that everyone lies.  We are like the Russian worker during the communist era who told a reporter, “they pretend to pay us so we pretend to work.”  If everything around us is a lie; truth, a bright shining light, can be difficult to adjust to.  Yet in this great truth, a promise from the God who never lies can be completely relied upon and trusted.  No matter the situation or events in our life; God has promised to remain faithful to himself and thus to us as well.  We will never fall short when we rely on God and his truth.
Gracious Father, we find all truth in your Word.  Guide us to see that your truth gives us life and gives us hope.  Lead us to see that the lies and deceptions of this world only lead to pain and destruction.  Guard us with your holy angels.  In the precious name of Jesus we pray, amen.
God’s Peace,
Pastor Bret
