Good
Morning All!!
Psalm 57:2; “I cry out to God Most
High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.”
So a few days ago we looked at “man eyes”, a theory and concept that I
still don’t see or get. But a couple of
days ago, I slowly began to introduce my wife to an entirely new concept for
her- “man-shopping”. We only had a few
minutes to get what she wanted at the local arts in the park so I showed her “man-shopping.” This is a concept that men everywhere
completely understand.
“Man-shopping”
is when you know what you want to buy, you know what store it is in, and you
know pretty much where in the store it is.
“Man-shopping” takes 35 minutes tops.
It is a precision strike of go in; get it and get out. Virtually every man is capable of shopping in
this fashion. For example, a man needs
to buy a can of spray paint. He picks a
store, goes to the paint area, picks up the can of paint and is in the checkout
line in 15 minutes. This form of
shopping is highly efficient and very effective.
“Man-shopping” is purpose driven; there is a specific goal and then a
specific plan to accomplish this goal.
It places a strong emphasis on time management and places a great value
on minimal time in a store. There is a
purpose and the purpose is met.
In our verse we read about God fulfilling his purpose for us. What is that purpose? It is to bring us back into his holy
family. When we strayed because of sin,
immediately, God began the process of reconciliation. He gave to Adam and Eve the promise of a
Savior who would come and redeem them back.
For thousands of years this promise was what the people clung to; God’s
promise of a Savior. We of course do not
cling to the promise of a coming Savior.
We celebrate in the coming of Jesus and the salvation he brought. We celebrate the delivery of that promise.
So we are in the midst of God finishing his great promise. Someday, God will finish the task of
restoring the creation to the perfect kingdom that it once was. Someday, it will be that perfect creation
again. God will heal the brokenness, end
the suffering, destroy death forever and give to us the everlasting crown of
righteousness. As we look to the world,
there is a purpose to which God is going.
All things are to bring about salvation.
When we see events and wonder what God is doing about it; God’s Spirit
is nudging you and speaking to you, telling you to do something. If you have ever wondered why God isn’t
acting; it is oftentimes because we don’t get off of the couch. God gives us many opportunities to reach out
to our neighbor and bring about comfort, peace and hope. God desires that all people be saved. That is his purpose, to bring everyone back
to his holy family. It is our purpose to
be the instruments that God uses to accomplish this task.
Father
of mercy, you bring life to the weary and the lost. Give to us your Spirit that we may be
confident of your perfect purpose. Guide
us that we may be the hands that share that love. In the precious name of Jesus we pray, amen.
God’s Peace,
Pastor Bret
